TO JE HLÍNA aneb PODPORA VZDĚLÁVÁNÍ V MANIPURU

„To je hlína“ je soutěžní charitativní přehlídka dětských děl v několika uměleckých oborech. Soutěží se v keramice, výtvarce a fotografii. Děti tvoří s vědomím, že jejich díla budou prodána a pomůžou jejich vrstevníkům na druhém konci světa chodit do školy. Z výtěžku hradíme výstavbu studen, umýváren, tříd a škol v rozvojovém světě. Již jsme přispěli bezmála 900 tisíc Kč.

TODAY I’M A... Democracy: A Common Objective

Our initiative supports:

  • Civic education in schools
  • Interconnection between formal and informal education
  • Young people’s interest and involvement in the domain of public affairs

Our goals are:

  • to ensure practical understanding of the legislative process
  • to encourage and advance critical thinking
  • to boost the participants’ argumentation skills
  • to nurture a generation of responsible, empathetic and resilient individuals

This initiative encompasses several stand-alone projects aimed at young people aged 12-17 (below legal voting age in the Czech Republic). We support the teaching of civic education in learning establishments, as well as outside them. Our activities are designed to help educators with getting their civic education curriculum across in new and fun ways and make social sciences attractive for their students.

Conferences for students in primary and secondary education: Today I’m a Deputy!, Today I’m a Senator! and Today I’m a Representative! are intended as a real-life simulation – an immersive game of sorts – in which young people from schools all around the Czech Republic can take part and get a hands-on experience of what it entails to be a constitutional authority.

Politicians for one day, the participants debate on a given topic in the authentic setting of the Czech Republic’s Chamber of Deputies, the Senate House or the Municipality of Prague. In the presence of real-life political leaders, students discuss and subsequently vote on bills collectively proposed by their peers.

WHAT ON EARTH! Supporting education in Manipur, India

“What on Earth! is an annual fine arts competition. The participating schoolchildren can choose to compete in one of three categories: ceramics, drawing/painting and photography. The participants create original works of art that are displayed at a charity exhibition held in a public space and subsequently sold at an auction. Upon entering the competition, children know they can actually change lives of their peers on the other side of the world through their art: the proceeds from the auction are used directly to fund the construction of water wells, washrooms, schools and classroom equipment in developing countries. To this date, we have raised more than 35,000 EUR (900,000 CZK) that have gone towards the support of education.

In the Czech Republic, the What on Earth! initiative:

  • instills in the participants a sense of making a meaningful change in the world, celebrates their uniqueness and gives each and every one of them a fair chance at succeeding
  • provides an opportunity for children to get to know their peers from all around the globe
  • offers a safe space to cultivate children’s creativity

Around the world, we help children:

  • gain access to education
  • get better employment opportunities

To this day, our helping hand has already reached:

  • the region of East Timor, where we helped local schoolchildren get back on track after the civil war
  • Bangladesh, where we built a water well and thereby facilitated the construction of a new learning establishment
  • Zimbabwe – we built public washrooms in the town of Hwange
  • the Romany slum in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, that now boasts new teaching aids and musical instruments
  • the village of Thayong in Manipur, India, where we helped finish the construction of a local primary school and built a secondary school from scratch the village of Keihao in Manipur, India, where we are now supporting the construction of a new primary-education establishment

The Ultimate Guide to Cyber (Pa)trolling or What They Write Is Not Always Right!

A series of ten short comic books targetted at children and young people, the objective of which is to show – in a literally illustrative manner – how to approach and process a piece of fake news and what we, as individuals, can do to actively and effectively help fight its further spread. For educators, the book series provides an ideal way to facilitate the communication of the complex topic by inciting the young readers’ natural curiosity.

More information about this initiative, as well as the complete comic book series with accompanying interactive worksheets can be found on a website dedicated to this project:
